Mark Beaumont is a broadcaster and record-breaking adventurer who has cycled around the world, the length of the Americas and from Cairo to Cape Town. He is proud to support the work of Myeloma UK as our London Paris Ride Ambassador.

Mark supports Myeloma UK because he lost close friend, Dave Peat, to myeloma. Since learning about the cancer Mark has become a passionate advocate for research and patient support. Last year he became our London Paris Ride Ambassador, joining 125 participants cycling 500km over four days. It was an experience that Mark describes as, “Incredibly inspiring with memories that will last a lifetime. This is the first time I’ve taken part in a multi-day charity ride. The support provided by the crew and the camaraderie between the participants on the ride was brilliant.”

He adds, “Paris is special to me; it’s where I began and finished my record-breaking round the world cycle. I thought nothing could come close to that experience but the London Paris Ride exceeded my expectations. It was truly special with rolling road closures, and riding into Paris around the Arc de Triomphe under police escort is something you don’t usually get to experience unless you’re on the Tour.”

“Everyone on the ride had a connection to myeloma. There were patients – which in itself is inspirational – and their family and friends, doctors and researchers, all of whom were rallied around a common goal. The atmosphere was fantastic, I’ll never forget it.”

This year Mark will act as Ride Ambassador once again. He will be providing exclusive nutrition and training tips for participants, and feature in video clips to help keep everyone motivated and on track with training.

Got a question for Mark? Why not put it to him on the London Paris Ride closed Facebook group.

Mark is currently working on a top secret project that will see him attempt to break another world record, “I hope to be able to take part in the 2017 ride. Fingers crossed I get to see everyone at the start line in May.”
